We had a nice breakfast of sautéed mushrooms with shallots folded into scrambled eggs with sliced tomatoes and avocado. The local pastry shop isn’t open on Monday in this town. We pulled away from our dockside spot and began our way along the canal. The canal water is muddy or green. The banks are filled with olive trees, vineyards and poppies as well as walkers, bikers and occasional farmers. There are tons of birds fluttering about and singing. It’s quite magical.
It began to rain a bit. We just put on rain gear and kept going. It was a brief intermittent shower. We passed through many locks and hoped to get through one more set before noon, but the lock keepers maintain a strict 12-1 lunch break. So we tied off along the bank and had wine, cheese, olives and pate for lunch.
We were underway at exactly 1:01! The day turned sunny and warm as we continued along the canal. The maximum boat speed is 5 knots or about 5 mph so it’s a very leisurely trip.
We wound around a good distance after our last lock of the day and finally reached our destination, Le Somail. It is a lovely good sized town. Monday is almost as quiet as Sunday but we were able to wander around to a few places. We found a good place for dinner too. The local geese followed us a bit looking for handouts.

We enjoyed a very nice dinner at one of the few open restaurants. Tomorrow we go a short distance to a harbor where we have a day to hang out and relax.
sounds just lovely!
