19 May 2026 – Tuesday – Onward to Capestang

We left Le Somail around 9 am to reach Capestang. It was a 13 mile trip of winding canal with occasional boats coming upstream. The morning began a bit cool and rainy but by 10 am it became sunny and warm. We arrived around noon.
Our first important job was to pump out the holding tank. Toilets are dumped into a tank on board to protect the water and wildlife. There are Pumpout stations along the canal. The trick was to find out how to get the station to function using a QR code and then logging into the site with a credit card and password. After a few tries, we were successful.  The site is slow so it was difficult to get everything to function. But..,we pumped out and found our spot along the banks. Our group leader had arranged for reserved spots for each boat. Capestang is a busy and popular town.

We ate lunch on the upper deck with good shade from our movable cover. Then we went to get organized to pay for our spot and learn about the amenities.
Kathy, Helen and I walked into town. It’s a short dish from the canal but mid afternoon is always quiet. Shops and restaurants are all closed. The church looked interesting but we arrived just as a funeral was ending so we had no chance to go inside. We checked out a few restaurants that seemed to serve mostly pizza. We had found a spot across the canal that looked much more interesting than pizza so we decided to make our dinner plans there.

We enjoyed the afternoon breezes on the upper deck. Then we walked across to the port office to join a wine tasting. We made a dinner reservation in a nearby restaurant. It was extremely busy there so dinner took a long time. We finally paid and went back to the boat to celebrate Michael and Helen’s anniversary. We made plans for the next few days before saying goodnight. Tomorrow is a farmers market. Fun!
