Our day began slowly. No rush to be anywhere although we planned a trip to the Musee Picasso, one of my favorite spots. There is a permanent installation that is an incredible collection of Picasso’s work that was assembled to pay off his death taxes. But there is always an exhibit on the main floor of an artist who was influenced by Picasso’s work. The exhibit today was an American black artist, Henry Taylor. It was obvious that all Taylor’s faces had no defined eyes or eyes that were oddly unequal much like many of Picasso’s paintings. The paintings were strong statements about race and life growing up black.
After pacing through the Picasso galleries, it was time for a little lunch. The sky had looked ominous all morning and finally it began to rain. We ducked into a nearby bistro for delicious onion soup.
Once the rain stopped, it was time to visit Place des Vosges, a gorgeous park in the Marais which is the old Jewish section of town. Although many old shops for ethnic foods still exist, there are now upscale clothing stores and art galleries. There is a temple under the arches of the Place but it is open only by appointment.

We then went to meet friends from Stonington who were in Paris by chance and had read my blog that we were there. Their hotel was nearby and they promised a fabulous view from the bar upstairs. It was as promised until dark clouds and pouring rain added a different view.
Once the rain stopped, we left for dinner. I had chosen an interesting restaurant that served food with some Asian and African spices. The 5 course tasting menu was delicious as well as an overwhelming amount of food. But I couldn’t resist. At least we had a nice walk back to our hotel.
Tomorrow we fly to Toulouse. Then we take a train to Carcassonne. We should arrive just in time to reach our Air BnB on time.

tres bien!
