I am leaving at 6 am Saturday morning to fly to Atlanta and meet up with the Rochester crew for another medical mission in Antigua Guatemala.
I am excited to go again. This time I am in charge of anesthesia since Nancy Mark, who normally comes along as chief, has tuned over the responsibility to me. Having run the operating room at Memorial Sloan Kettering which has a much larger number of ORs and locations makes this small group seem easy. But many of the staff haven’t been with us before. It will be busy.
We should arrive in Guatemala City by about noon due to a 2 hour time difference. Then we assemble baggage and many hockey bags filled with supplies to get on buses that will take us to Antigua which is almost 2 hours away. The traffic is always crazy until we get out of the city. It gives us time to get acquainted a bit.
More to report tomorrow.
So proud of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good for you. The work you and the others choose to do is so necessary and yet so rare in these times of #MEFirst!

I sat next to a man on my flight who is dealing with malnutrition in Guatemala in native populations. It’s so wonderful to see that those of us who are able, are helping to make the world better a bit at a time. The experience is truly inspiring.
