Day 1: going to St John’s Newfoundland
It’s been a busy summer on the water. I was crew on a Bermuda race boat with some great sailor friends. Unfortunately we snapped a line that made it difficult to sail effectively so we motored after that and were out of the race.
My next adventure was a gorgeous trip with Mark and Bev and a few other friends going through Georgian bay in Lake Huron to Mackinaw island. Since Mark does a blog, I didn’t feel like adding. In case you missed it the link is below.
Now: I am sitting in Montreal airport waiting for my flight to St John’s Newfoundland. Tonight I stay in St John’s with Marah, who is one of Moya’s daughters. We will go out for dinner and then tomorrow I fly to St Anthony which is very far north in Newfoundland. I think it will be the jumping off point to cross to Labrador!

Moya, who was the commodore of the Royal Newfoundland yacht club when we were there 2 summers ago, is taking me on her boat along with one of her daughters and a man who is another anesthesiologist! We spoke this morning. He asked me to drop by a cousin who is deaf in one ear, has lost sensation on that side of her face and is having balance problems. We agreed that she probably has a tumor called an acoustic neuroma! I am supposed to give her my medical opinion to add credence to his! HA!!
I was anxious about arriving early in the morning tomorrow with luggage and no place to go. So I made a hotel reservation just in case I needed to stay over and the boats might be later than expected. I told Moya that my 9:35 arrival in St Anthony might be great but I needed to park my luggage so that I could explore.
This morning as I walked off the plane in Montreal, Moya called to tell me that Max, who has been my guardian angel in St John’s, has arranged for his “cousin” who is apparently a native will pick me up at the airport. He will have a feather in his hair. NOW the adventure will really begin. Stay tuned!
sail well enjoy and send lots of photos please. XA
