What could be better than a trip to 12 degrees above the equator to Grenada?
Warm weather with winds to keeps it pleasant and a real adventure. My friend Garet who owns a house in Grenada offered it and I decided to go and have my friend Kathleen O’Donnell come along.
We had a 6 am flight from JFK that brought us here. I have been here many times but am always ready for adventure.
We had a rental car reservation. I had anxiety about driving on the left but it seemed mostly possible. Just anxiety because the drivers are aggressive. I let everyone pass me. When big trucks came towards me I just pulled over and waited.
Once we were established, Kathleen and I went to the beach at La Sagesse, a beautiful resort just down the hill. It is very protected. We had a delicious lunch of locally caught swordfish. Then we sat on the beach until the ants were annoying.
We went into town the next day to a lovely beach, Morne Rouge. It’s another nice protected spot. The restaurant at one end, the Plywood, was written up in a recent article by The NY Times. Lunch was excellent.
Today we went to Grand Etaing lake. What a crazy drive.The roads are narrow and curvy with no way to know if someone is coming around the next turn. The lake is an old caldera, which is the top of a volcano. No activity there but a fabulous spot to see the island and visit the Mona monkeys.
We returned to our side of the island to celebrate a difficult driving day with Rum at La Sagesse. Dinner back at the house. No night driving. It’s too difficult to do even with maps on the phone. Happy to be relaxing and enjoying the peeps who serenade us at night.
