17 June 2023 – Saturday – Off to Guatemala !

So far all is well. I am at the airport with bag checked through to Guatemala. My flight to Miami is on time. Then after a layover I board the flight to Guatemala City which also seems to be on time. The what’s app group discussion seems to show that one team member had a flight from Newark to Chicago but the Newark flight was delayed so he missed the connection. He was rebooked back to Newark then on to Guatemala. Painful I am sure! I am not sure why he didn’t just take the direct flight in the first place but I think the major group left from Rochester to Chicago and onwards. It’s all based on price. I use miles to fly and go my own way. So far it has worked well 

I hate traveling through Miami but it’s all the same airline so it shouldn’t be too crazy.
Pick up in Guatemala City is arranged. I arrive around the same time as a west coast group. Then a 1 1/2 hour bus trip to Antigua.

Tomorrow we start at the hospital with a full day of setting up and evaluating patients who we will operate on during the week.
