We had a sunny start this morning as we walked to a local spot that Lesley had recommended for breakfast. I had scrambled eggs with chorizo, black beans, fried plantains and tortillas. The coffee was the best I have ever had. It was smooth and strong. I usually add milk but this was too good to dilute.

We decided to shop a little more before going back to the hotel. I bought a cute dress for Leatrice and a few beaded birds and a frog. Beaded pieces are very clever and easy to buy on the street. Nancy bought more jade talismans for family. As we began to walk back to the hotel, the misty rain began. And then it poured rain all day!

Nancy had booked a massage. I decided to explore. The hotel which is built on the ground of an old convent has a museum and ruins that are open to visit. There is also a display of silver church artifacts. I was unable to find out if they were from the this church and convent or other places. My Spanish is limited and not everyone here understands English. Oh well.

I then visited the casa des Artes which is a place that has a collection of high quality handicrafts, jewelry and a museum. I had visited last year and liked their mask collection. The masks are used in ceremonial dances in various Mayan villages. I liked the animal masks that are used to depict types of hunting parties. I had seen a jaguar mask that appealed to me. After comparing several masks, I decided on one. There are jaguars in the mountains here. Their masks are part of a deer hunt dance. I will have to find the video that goes with the mask. I figured the mask would scare away intruders because it looks rather fierce.

My walk back to the hotel left my pants soaked below the knees and my socks were soaked too. My raincoat kept the rest of me dry.
I spent the rest of the afternoon at the spa with heat lamps warming the outdoor but sheltered area. It was nice to watch the rain from that spot.

Tonight we ate at a Guatemalan restaurant that served typical local dishes. The servings seem generous because rice and tortillas are always a part of the meal. At least the rain had stopped.
Tomorrow we move to a different hotel where the whole team will stay. Then the work begins on Sunday.
Wow!! Best coffee ever? It must be if you didn’t put milk in it! Sounds lije a great day once you dried out.

The coffee here is rich and smooth. It is just different than what we drink which has a little edge. This morning is sunny and beautiful!
