We left Baddeck after Mark made blueberry waffles for breakfast. We had to use the berries we had picked. Our destination was only a short trip of about 15 miles.

Leaving Baddeck
Expert Line Handler

Once we were anchored, Mark and Charlie were determined to figure out why the newly installed pump wasn’t functioning. It turned into an full afternoon project. The rest of us were busy giving paper towels and buckets to the project. The final thought was that the pump worked but the pipe exiting the boat was clogged. Mark snaked the line and we thought we had success. Maggie and I hung over the edge of the boat to report that we could see the effluent.

Round 2 of the Manual Pump Out

We had champagne for cocktails and a delicious roast pork loin with shallot, fig and red wine sauce for dinner. We were back and functioning. Or so we thought….

    1. The pump works but it isn’t emptying the holding tank. Mark thinks it is due to a step down in the size of the line that exits the boat. The pump was just replaced and it may be too powerful so when it tries to pump against a narrowing line the duck valve inverts. The previous pump was much less powerful. It’s been the source of much “dirty work”.
