28 July 2025 – Monday – Vatersay to Gott Bay on Tiree

The fleet left Vatersay this morning. Sadly, one boat had been pushed up on the rocks in a nearby harbor during storm early Sunday morning. They had no hull damage but lost their rudder. So they had made it to Vatersay for the party but had difficulty steering. They were towed out of the harbor this morning as their rudder fell off. Apparently they were all able to join other boats on the cruise.

We sailed about 40 miles across “the Minch” to reach Tiree. It was clearly a destination for many in our group. We anchored with about 3 boats in the harbor. There are about 12 here as the evening is coming.

Although the weather report was for rain, we actually had a day of sunshine and good wind. It was a very pleasant and easy day of sailing. We hung out for a while then began to make dinner. We have eaten nice simple meals with many of us involved in helping to make things. Tonight we had guacamole and chips to start, then pork tenderloin, pasta, and salad. After a full day of sailing, food is always tasty.

We watched the other boats in the harbor swing around with the tides. Another nice day of sailing that is memorable.
