25 July 2025 – Friday – To Eriskay Island

The night was quite windy, but we were secure at anchor. We slept a bit late and after breakfast and dishes we left for Eriskay, one of the islands that make up the Hebrides chain. Our most distant destination is Vatersay which is planned for Sunday. We will be close enough to Vatersay that we can get to the planned afternoon beach picnic event by leaving Eriskay on Sunday morning.
We sailed along the coast towards Vatersay until we had to navigate into the tricky entrance to the island. We turned on the motor, took the sails down, and carefully threaded our way through the narrow rock entrance to the nice protected harbor where several other boats were already anchored. The cruising guide produced by the Scotch organization, the Clyde Cruising Club, warns that there is soft mud in the anchorage which can make anchoring difficult. It took several attempts before we were satisfied with our anchor holding.

A passage requiring attentive Navigation

After lunch we took the dinghy to the dock so that we could go for a hike on the island. We all hiked various distances. Dale and I like to go slowly to enjoys the flowers and landscapes.
The sun actually appeared for much of the afternoon. We invited 2 friends on another boat to join us for dinner. It was another fun night.
If you are wondering why you haven’t heard from me…we have been outside all cell signal range. These islands are quite remote!
