The choices include flights from St John’s to Halifax or Montreal or Toronto. Then a connecting flight to a NY area airport. My preference is La Guardia. Whichever place you make the connection also makes you “cross the border”.
I made my connection in Montreal where it’s a long walk to get to the”border”and then a long line for security where you get your carry on screening. Finally, you reach Global Entry! That’s easy. At least they allow checked luggage to just be forwarded to your next flight. It would not have been possible to make a tight connection because once you get through all that, it’s a long walk to the gates.
Luckily for me, Mia had given me a guest pass to the Air Canada lounge. My flight connection was 2 1/2 hours until my flight to NY was delayed by an hour. I finally got home at 8pm. Of note, Newfoundland is in a very unusual time zone that is Atlantic time plus 30 minutes. So the total trip took 9 1/2 hours.
