After we finished dinner and cleaned up the mess from the mistakenly set off fire extinguisher, it was 1:00am. It was a very short night.
We left the dock this morning at 5:10am. As we were back at the harbor entrance there were many whales spouting and diving. The men who had helped us tie up last night said that the capelin and mackerel which are both whale food have been very plentiful this year.

We planned a 75+ mile trip to Fogo island. It took 12 hours. But we had whales and dolphins along the way and the weather was sunny and breezy. We came into Seldom harbor on the south coast of Fogo. One of our 2 engines suddenly failed. We were able to get to a dock to tie up. Max who is with us in tandem and has been the engineer on many boats was over to help diagnose the problem. Apparently the solenoid on the engine turned out to be the culprit but Max knew how to bypass it. Always a challenge.
Once we were docked, Moya wanted cod for dinner. I hopped off to search the docks and found a woman whose husband was working on his boat. She said they didn’t have any but her father in law might have some in his freezer. I went to visit another boat and when I returned the woman, Jackie had a bag of frozen cod for me!! She wouldn’t take payment. This is so typical here.

Moya is now making dinner. Cod, potatoes and schrunchins ( salt pork) layered in a big pot. It’s a very delicious meal. Then we will just sleep after a very long day.
Tomorrow we explore Fogo island. It has lots of interesting walking trails and views as I am told. We will visit the Fogo inn which is a beautiful spot as I see on the website. Not many pictures today in a very long day of travel. Tomorrow will be much better!
