01 April 2034 – Monday – Day Seven – April Fool’s Day

This morning started off with April fool’s tricks. There were spiders all over the sink and floor of the head (bathroom). Lifting the toilet seat gave a laughing picture of Cynda. There were Harry Potter strange flavored jelly beans on the dining table. Then we ate breakfast. It was normal.

Yesterday as we came towards Coronado iIsland we noticed that part of the mainsail had pulled out of the track on the mast. On further inspection it seemed that a piece connecting the sail to the track had fallen off. Luckily we were able to furl the sail stowing it safely. After Marcel discussed the problem with his captain who had been sent on vacation while we were onboard, the captain told Marcel that he should not try to raise the main sail. No problem. We went for another hike on Coronado island that took us across the narrow island to see the rock strewn deserted other side. It was an easy hike.

As we brought the dinghy back to the boat I noticed a small hole on the transom ( the back panel of the boat where the motor sits). It was spurting water into the dinghy as we moved forward. There had been water in the dinghy on several occasions but we thought it happened when we were towing it. Now there was another reason. It’s always something.

After lunch we started off for Loreto. There seemed to be serious battery problems. The generator had not been run to top off the batteries and it shut down power to preserve the low batteries. Marcel was able to reach the captain by phone to get an explanation of how to reset the generator and charge the batteries. There needs to be a manual for these sorts of problems!

We reached Loreto, a UNESCO world heritage site, by late afternoon. We anchored outside the tiny port and took the dinghy to the small enclosed dock area. We walked around town ending at a very nice restaurant where we had a delicious meal. Marcel and Cynda were celebrating 50 years together. When we returned to the boat, we drank champagne, ate cake and Marcel and Cynda read their marriage vows.

April fools tricks continued. Cynda passed out chocolate covered garlic. She also left rubber snakes in our beds. Tomorrow is April 2! No more tricks.
