As always, the start to the first day is a bit crazy with getting setup and all paperwork in place. Since I have never seen the operation we are doing, I am asking lots of questions about what to expect. These patients had a previous cleft lip and palate repair as babies. Now as teenagers and older, they have a nasal deformity that may pull the nose off center and sometimes a lip deformity that pulls the lip up. Most of them are otherwise healthy.
The surgery which is called a cleft rhinoplasty is all done from an incision at the intersection between the upper lip and the nose. The pictures I have taken show before and after. The surgery itself isn’t easy to see.
It’s very good to be back in the operating room for a while. I am very much at home even though it’s not what I do all the time. I still have things to teach.
The day will be long. The teams are busy. All is good. We are already planning where to eat dinner once the day ends. It’s a great group as usual.
The patients in the photos are some of today’s cases. Great results!

Wow! The pictures really bring home how impact full this is.
