We left Halifax early on Tuesday after dropping Maggie and Charlie back on shore. They were planning to drive down the coat to meet us in Lunenberg. We went down the harbor from Halifax and as we turned in the ocean the boat began to pitch up and down in rough seas. I was sort of wishing I had gone with Charlie and Maggie. Most of the trip to Lunenberg was quite rough and foggy until we got close to the land again. We were in touch with Charlie and Maggie about our entry. Maggie sent us a photo of our spot on the dock. Charlie was on the dock to catch our lines. We pulled in and docked perfectly with Mark’s excellent driving. It has turned into a beautiful sunny day.

Once we were settled, we had lunch on board. We are finally getting to a point where we are working on eating whatever we have on board and trying to finish food that we don’t want to bring back. It makes it easy to figure out what we will consume for our next meal.
We walked into town. The waterside part of town is about 5 blocks. Our first stop was Ironworks distillery. It’s an old forge building that was used in the shipbuilding days. The forge, bellows and anvil are still on display. The distillery makes various rums and fruit flavored neutral spirits which are the alcoholic leftovers from rum distillery. We sampled and bought a few things. Then we walked down the main street looking for dinner spots. Maggie had already determined that many places were closed on Tuesdays.

When it was time for dinner we split up and stood in line at the few places that were serving. There were about 4 places open, pizza, fish shack, pub and regular restaurant. Ultimately we did a fish shack take out order back to the boat. The line behind us was getting longer as we left with our food. We later found out that several restaurants were having end of summer staff parties that night. There were many angry people in line. But we also heard that a nearby town had lots of open restaurants…if one had a car. We were happy with fish and chips and panko crusted scallops. The scallops here are the best we have eaten!

We planned to stay in port on Wednesday. Lunenberg is a UNESCO world heritage site that has a big fishing museum, several schooners and beautiful brightly painted houses. A big storm was forecast to pass us in the afternoon. So it was an easy spot to remain on the dock.
Are you ever coming home? Guess what? I’ve been to lunenberg!!!!!
