29 August 2022 – Monday – Halifax

After breakfast, Mark brought Maggie and Charlie to shore where Bob Royle picked them up and brought them to their car parked near the airport. Maggie and Charlie had not spent time in Halifax so we sent them to explore a few places and buy a few groceries.

In the meantime, we moved the boat first to a dock to refuel during which time I did some boat cleaning. No matter how neat we are, there is always dust and crumbs and things that have spilled on the floors. Routine cleanup is good. As we say, a clean boat is a happy boat.

Next we moved to the dock at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron for Pumpout!! I had been to the RNSYS a few years ago when I crewed for the Marblehead to Halifax race. I recalled they made great Bloody Marys so we decided to stay there for lunch. We sat outside enjoying a beautiful sunny day with our Caesars which are Bloody Marys made with Clamato juice. They had run out of tomato juice over the busy weekend. Shocking.

We returned to our anchorage and prepared for having Maggie and Charlie back on board with groceries and then Mark picked up Bob and Diane Royle to join us for dinner. We had a fun evening recounting our travels to Newfoundland. Both Bob and Diane are originally from Newfoundland so they enjoyed hearing about our various stops in harbors they knew.

While Mark was grilling we were entertained by several beautiful small sailboats called Solings that were practicing racing around a mark right next to where we had anchored.

Soling Practice

As has been typical, Mark wanted to leave the harbor early (7 am) to arrive at our next destination Lunenberg about 30 miles away. The wind was forecast to pick up around noon which would make for rough travel if we left later. So we cleaned up and went to bed.
