The canal and lock exiting St. Peter’s and the Bras D’Or lakes is a small operation. We radioed the bridge operator asking for the bridge to open. The bridge operator then arrived by truck a few minutes later to swing the bridge. We were told that the lock was open on our side so we could proceed into the lock. We tied up along the lock wall and waited for the lock operator to arrive. After several minutes, 2 women in uniforms arrived to operate the locks. They closed the lock behind us, opened the doors ahead and we were off.

We had a calm crossing of the Canso Strait to reach a nice anchorage in Weber Cove. As we sat there, a number of small local boats came out to look at us. I think visitors are pretty rare there and big power boats always bring out admirers.
Saturday morning we left early to reach Liscomb, a place up a river with a nice Lodge and reportedly good food. The open water part of the trip was very bouncy and unpleasant. It was good to turn into the river to be out of the confused seas. I was particularly grateful since I was feeling rather green.

The Liscomb Lodge has a floating dock where we tied up easily. We registered in the main office and checked to see that our dinner reservation was on the books. We hoped to eat lunch there because the menu featured Elk burgers. Unfortunately the elk burgers have not been available for weeks. Charlie was very disappointed. He had to settle for a grilled turkey cheese and tomato sandwich on board.

After lunch we walked around the grounds up to a small waterfall that was just up river from our dock. Some of the cabins for the lodge were along the river and waterfall. Sweet spot.

Maggie and I took the opportunity for a land based shower. We had poked around the lodge a bit and found that there was a wedding taking place in the evening. After we returned to the boat, the bride and groom were coming to the dock for photos. Mark offered to have them on the boat for a photo. So they climbed on board and had a few photos taken on the bow.

We had a nice dinner at the lodge. Charlie and Mark both ordered venison/bison burgers. They were happy. We planned a very early departure for a long 75+ mile day to Halifax. Early to bed.
