18 August 2022 – Thursday – Ramea

The weather forecast was for a very windy rainy day. Although it’s possible to travel under poor conditions, it’s not pleasant to be tossed around in big seas unless there is no choice. We planned a day of projects, provisions and laundry. After a hot oatmeal breakfast, Mark went to the engine room to clean and check fluid levels. Maggie gathered laundry( we have a washer and dryer on board). I went with Nancy and Charlie to the 2 grocery stores to fill in some fresh vegetables and other provisions.
When we returned, Nancy made cabbage, leek and potato soup for lunch.

After lunch Mark Charlie Nancy and I went for a hike up to the cell and TV tower to get a good view of the island and surrounding area. It was mostly a long staircase that ended in a muddy rocky top. We watched the ferry arrive. Then as it began to rain we descended back down to town.

Our sailing friends on the dock suggested that we get together and patronize the local restaurant by having a beer and wings get together at 4 pm. The woman who runs the restaurant also runs a kayak rental and a B&B out of the same place. She makes good hearty food. She also sells knitted items that she makes. She has a great sense of humor too.

We had all ordered pizzas for dinner from the town bakery. I had decided to make roasted vegetables to top the cheese pizza. We also had garlic fingers( pizza dough with cheese and garlic and bacon). It was another fun meal.
