We planned an early departure from St Pierre to get ahead of ferry departures and make it back to Fortune where we needed to do our “border check in” for Newfoundland. The sea was calm and luckily there was no fog. It’s always nice to have good visibility when entering or leaving a harbor.
We tied up at the customs dock in Fortune just after the ferry from St Pierre arrived. Ferries go much faster than we do. Having departed 1 1/2 hours after us, the ferry passed us before the Fortune harbor entrance. Luckily, there weren’t many passengers on the ferry so that we didn’t have a long wait to be cleared in. The customs officers were friendly and very helpful too.
We continued on to Jerseyman’s harbor where we chose a nice anchorage spot. This harbor is another resettlement spot with a few well kept homes and two very rusted impressive shipwrecks. We decided to take a dinghy ride around to explore along the shoreline. There was no easy access to the shore except for the docks protruding from each home. Even if we had been bold enough to access the docks, they didn’t have a way to climb up onto the land. Gangways had been removed. We got some close up views of the wrecks then returned to the boat for dinner.

We spent some time planning our new few stops along the way. Hare bay which in my book is one of the most spectacular spots, was our next planned trip. Everyone agreed that we should go there. We decided to leave very early the next morning in order to have a chance to explore and hike a spectacular waterfall.
