08 & 09 August 2022 – Monday & Tuesday – Transit to Argentia and Hunkering Down

We knew that there would be a nasty storm arriving Tuesday night. We planned a 140+ mile overnight voyage to Argentia on the southern area of Newfoundland to arrive in a small cove where I had been several years before when I had helped Dan Coit, a surgeon at MSKCC, complete his circumnavigation of Newfoundland.
Witless head is as far back and around a corner protected by cliffs as you can get in Argentia bay.

We slowed our journey on Tuesday morning to insure arrival in full daylight. The spot was exactly right to protect us from the oncoming winds. We dropped the anchor and it held so quickly that everyone felt it tug. I was letting out anchor chain on the bow and it made me rock back for a second from the sudden tug. We knew we were secure.

Well Protected Witless Head Bay

The rain began shortly after we anchored and continued off and on throughout the day and night. The wind was blowing hard but it was very comfortable in our super protected spot. We had a nice quiet day of reading, boat projects and then dinner. We heard from other boats that were tied up in various harbors where they had lots of waves and wind with banging at docks. We were very happy to be so protected. Great spot!!
