Today we spent most of the day traveling about 60 miles. Remember boats travel around 8 knots which seems fast on the water but painfully slow on land. I joined Moya for the trip on her boat, Moya C. It’s good to have help so that you can move around the boat and have someone else be vigilant. We stayed in tandem with Friendship 4.
There was a bit of morning fog and some rolling seas but we crossed Trinity bay quite easily since we left Pope’s harbor around 6:30 am before the wind picked up.

We made our way down Concepcion bay to Brigus which is a popular scenic destination not far from the Royal Newfoundland yacht club.

Once we were settled we took the dinghy into town for a walk around. It is a pretty and historic spot with little canals and brightly painted houses. There is a museum that has artifacts from a captain Bartlett who accompanied Perry on one of voyages to the North Pole. We found a letter on the wall offering the captain an honorary membership in 1924 to the Cruising Club of America (our organization). It was a real surprise.

We had a cocktail party to celebrate Johanna’s birthday on Visions of Johanna then dinner back on Friendship. After 8+ hours of sea time, we were all ready to turn in early.
Mark and I had discussed that with the miles of the Bermuda race 635×2(round trip) and travels to Newfoundland, we had each covered close to 3,000 sea miles so far! That is impressive, I think.
