The Bonavista dialysis center had a fund raising breakfast on the dock as a kickoff for Bonavista’s weekend celebration. It was a $10 donation for baked beans, a fried egg, fried bologna and toutons which are fried bread on which you pour molasses. It was a very popular dock event. Canadians do a “come home” event every few years for Newfoundlanders who have moved away and want to come home to see friends and family. Each town has festivities for a weekend and it may include a parade and many parties.

left Bonavista bound for Trinity , about a 30 mile trip, around 10 am. Once we rounded Bonavista point we began to see lots of whales. The water remains shallow near the shore and lots of sea life is there for feeding the whales. It is always a treat to spot these enormous sea creatures as they spout and dive. One whale dove very close to our boat flipping his fluke up as he dove. It was a thrill.

We arrived in Trinity around 3:30. We waited for instructions on where to put our boat. Eventually nearly everyone was placed on the docks.

and I went off to explore the town while Mark and all the guys figured out how to move a cleat on the dock that was bent towards our boat. It took lots of power and equipment but it worked.
Nancy and I wandered into a few craft shops. There are lots of quilted items and knitted items as well. It’s a long winter here!
We ended the day having dinner on visions of Johanna. We were tied up ( rafted) together so it was easy.
