21 July 2022 – Thursday – Passage to BONVISTA

We had a 4 am wake-up to get ready to leave the dock by 5 on by our way to Bonavista. After we had stowed lines and fenders, Nancy and Mark stood watch. Bev and I went back to bed!!!
When I got up to stand my watch, I was greeted with a happy birthday banner hanging in the salon.

We had some rolling seas all day but we were rewarded with a great display of many whales spouting and diving as we neared the point to round to Bonavista.

The Bonavista harbor has a somewhat hidden entrance that opens into a large pond like area. There is a 1000 ft dock newly built. It was easy to land and tie up. It took some time to get the electric connection to work but with the help of the harbor master we got settled.

FRIENDSHIP 4 at New Dock in Bonavista

We were greeted by Bill and Linda Bowers. Bill had conceived this cruise so he knows the area well. Then we met Moya , the commodore of the Royal Newfoundland yacht club. She said she was having a party for an 81 yr old lady whose birthday was the 21st. When she heard that it was my birthday, we were all invited to dinner and birthday cake. It turned into a fun party. We contributed salad, wine and fusilli and Moya had a big
cheese salami and cracker plate, Prosecco and fabulous homemade bolognese sauce. She had ordered a chocolate cake for dessert which was excellent. Fun!
My carrot cake will be made for the next meal. That was my birthday request.  Great birthday fun.
