19 & 20 July 2022 – Tuesday & Wednesday – Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club

We arrived at the Royal Newfoundland yacht club around 8 am as planned. We tied up to the fuel dock first to refuel after our 550 mile run. Then we moved to a nice spot further along the face dock. We then began the usual cleaning and organizing that always happens as you reach land.

Kathy, the club manger, lent us her car and we went to a variety of places in search of things we needed. We returned with the makings for projects which consumed most of both days. Mark ran wires to connect the stereo system and he fixed a deck leak. Bev and I lined the shelves for our storage with non stick fabric so that we would no longer be attacked by jars and cans upon opening the cabinets. Nancy cleaned some parts for Mark and did laundry.
We had an early dinner in st John on Tuesday, a $70 taxi ride away, at a restaurant overlooking the impressive commercial harbor. We were even entertained by the huge ship in front of us being unloaded.

We slept late on Wednesday. Waffles with fresh blueberries for breakfast before we went back to work.  Wednesday evening we ate at a delicious spot that had no view but great food and wine. We had a list of restaurants from Diane Royal who we had visited in Halifax. She had grown up in St John.

Our plan for a 5 am departure to travel 80 miles sent us to bed early. Remember we go between 7-8 knots per hour!! So it’s a 10+ hour trip that must be done in daylight so that we arrive in time to see our way into the next port.
